Presented by Wildbound Live and Word After Word Books

Livestreamed (available) and In-Person (sold out)

ABOUT THIS EVENT

Join Wildbound Live and Word After Word Books as we welcome bestselling author Eric Blehm to discuss his latest book The Darkest White. Eric will guide us through the remarkable legacy of Craig Kelly, his profound influence on the world of snowboarding, and the events that led to his death in the 2003 Durrand Glacier Avalanche - a devastating tragedy that claimed the lives of seven people.

In conversation with Eric will be none other than pioneering snowboarder and living legend Jim Zellers. Together, they'll delve into the heart of The Darkest White, sharing firsthand perspectives and personal reflections on Craig Kelly's unparalleled journey.

This evening is a chance to be part of the dialogue between two icons of mountain adventure. It promises to be an evening of inspiration, enlightenment, and remembrance as we honor the mountains around us and those we have lost.

ABOUT ERIC BLEHM

Eric Blehm is the award-winning author of the New York Times bestsellers Fearless and The Only Thing Worth Dying For. His book The Last Season won the National Outdoor Book Award and was named by Outside magazine as one of the"greatest adventure biographies ever written."

In his current book, The Darkest White, A Mountain Legend and the Avalanche that Took Him (HarperCollins), Blehm tells the story of snowboarding's original superstar, and the sport's first true professional who walked away from the fame and fortune associated with competition to return to the powdery backcountry that originally drew him to his calling, and ultimately took his life.

"The Darkest White is a gripping and heartfelt story of a bold, short life well-lived," says New York Times bestselling author Hampton Sides. "Not just a terrific story of an amazing life," adds number one New York Times bestselling author of The Terminal List series, Jack Carr, “not just the origin story of an entire sport, but a riveting disaster narrative that builds tension masterfully."

"The Darkest White is a must read," says Tony Hawk, "not just for fans of snowboarding, but ... for anyone looking for inspiration from an unlikely hero."

Blehm continues to research, write, and bring to life sometimes obscure, but always amazing true stories from his basecamp in north San Diego County where he lives with his editor wife and brood of three talented and creative "kids" all of whom make him look good on paper (and to infinity) and beyond.

ABOUT JIM ZELLERS

One of big mountain snowboarding’s pioneers, Jim Zellers has been there from beginning—establishing the sport in Tahoe after being banished to Slide Mountain and Donner Ski Ranch, exploring Alaska in the early days and leading snowboarding mountaineering expeditions around the world. Jim’s first snowboard descents include Mt. McKinley. Nepal's Pumori, New Zealand's Mt. Cook, Africa's Mt. Kenya, and, Yosemite’s Half Dome.

Jim grew up in Cupertino, California, making trips to Tahoe through his childhood (and first sliding sideways on a $49.95 bindingless Tom Sims Ski Board in 1978) until he eventually moved to Truckee at age 18. While attending the University of Nevada, Reno, Jim started rock climbing and soon combined it with his passion for snowboarding to venture deeper into the Range of Light and beyond. Jim has supported himself as a construction worker, a furniture maker, a commercial stuntman, a pro snowboarder and now as the founder of High Camp, an internal branding and culture building company.

A TNF athlete since 1988, Jim still believes his backyard is the future of exploration. While many seek remote locations from home, Jim knows the Sierra hold enough adventure for a lifetime. Accomplishments. He designed and built his home with his wife Bonnie, a former TNF athlete, and raised two boys who are now off to college.
