ABOUT THIS EVENT

A Walk in The Wild: Reclaiming Human Nature

With introduction by Sister Helen Prejean, acclaimed author of Dead Man Walking

Living through COVID has been uncommonly demanding. It's also unearthed the opportunity to reclaim a truth we too easily forget: We Are Nature. The superpowers of the natural world are hardwired in us and hold the wisdom to healing our lives, our community, and our planet. This is the promise of Full Ecology, a new book by social scientist Mary M Clare and bestselling nature writer Gary Ferguson.

This Earth Day, join the authors for a virtual adventure into America's Wild to uncover the brilliance and promise of our place in the world. The event will be introduced by Sister Helen Prejean, acclaimed author of Dead Man Walking and well-known advocate for ending the death penalty, who shares Full Ecology’s interest in returning humans to our deep kinship with nature. Practical and poetic, scientific and spiritual, this virtual event offers a chance to stop, reflect, and rediscover the guiding lights that rest in our relationships.

FOR THOSE THAT CAN'T MAKE THE LIVE EVENT: If you can't make the live program at 4pm PT, you can still join the adventure - but you need to register now!  We'll make the link viewable for everyone that registers, regardless of when you view it.

ABOUT THE BOOK: FULL ECOLOGY

In Full Ecology, social-cultural psychologist Mary M. Clare and longtime nature writer Gary Ferguson suggest a path forward. Instead of inflaming environmental dread, they teach us to take heart and develop the inner resolve to confront the climate crisis. Breaking with the modern impulse to see humans as separate from nature, Clare and Ferguson encourage us to learn from the “supremely methodical and highly improvisational” natural systems that touch our lives. True change, they argue, begins with understanding ourselves not as isolated individuals, but as being in harmony with our human and nonhuman worlds. From this process of mindfulness and reflection, they offer an alternative strategy for acting in ecologically healthy ways, and for inspiring others to do the same.
