ABOUT THIS EVENT

BROUGHT TO YOU BY ALPENGLOW SPORTS

The third show of the season welcomes the new year on Thursday, January 7th with extreme skiing icon Angel Collinson. Her show “Another Half-Mile” will depict funny and serious stories from her childhood, her evolution as an extreme skier at Utah’s famous Snowbird Resort, and how she has utilized these life lessons during expeditions and on some of the most extreme ski descents ever captured on film. Collinson was the first woman to win Powder Magazine’s “Best Line” award and is a mainstay in annual Teton Gravity Research films.

With over 4,000 attendees annually, the 15-year-old Alpenglow Winter Speaker Series (WSS) has become the premier North American forum for adventure storytelling. Five times per winter, a premier outdoor athlete presents an inspirational tale of adventure, creating a forum for motivation and inspiration. Every show is free. Giveaways, in conjunction with anonymous donations, currently raise more than $50,000 per show for local non-profit organizations. To date, WSS has raised over $500,000, making a tangible difference in North Lake Tahoe and beyond.

FOR THOSE THAT CAN'T MAKE THE LIVE EVENT: If you can't make the live program at 7pm PDT, you can still join the adventure - but you need to register now!  We'll make the link viewable for everyone that registers, regardless of when you view it.

A life-long skiier, Angel Collinson is more likely to be seen in ski movies these days.

The daughter of the ski patrol director at Utah’s Snowbird ski area, Angel Collinson grew up in employee housing at the base of the mountain, becoming a skier not long after she learned to walk. As a child, she and her parents and her younger brother, fellow pro skier Johnny Collinson, spent summers living in their family’s van and climbing peaks all over the western United States.

An elite ski racer through her teens, Collinson gave up racing at age 19 and started entering big-mountain freeskiing contests, all while studying environmental law at the University of Utah. In her first year on the Freeskiing World Tour, in 2010, she won the overall title as a rookie, which she claimed again the following year.

By 2013, she’d transitioned to filming, with a breakout part in Teton Gravity Research’s annual ski movie. Now a regular star athlete in TGR’s films, Collinson’s claimed many awards for her film parts, including becoming the first female in history to win Best Line at the Powder Video Awards for the footage of her slashing a steep spine in Alaska.
